Mr. Painter is the Assistant Managing Partner of Ericksen Arbuthnot's Sacramento office, is Co-Chair of the firm's Products Liability Practice Group and is an active member in the firm’s Employment Practice Group. He is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
During his career, Mr. Painter has handled cases involving all aspects of civil litigation and has successfully litigated numerous high exposure cases in both state and federal courts. He has tried 17 civil jury trials and a number of bench trials. He successfully defended the first “failure to warn” pharmaceutical products liability case to be tried to verdict in the United States on the issue of whether aspirin causes Reye’s syndrome. He has litigated complex business litigation and class action lawsuits.
His practice has an emphasis on civil litigation in federal and state court involving wrongful termination, discrimination and harassment, disability claims, defamation, privacy, and wage and hour claims. He also represents employers before numerous federal and state agencies including the U.S. Department of Labor, California Labor Commissioner, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (“DFEH”) and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”).
Additionally, his practice includes professional errors and omissions of healthcare practitioners, real estate brokers and agents, lawyers and financial institutions, products liability, and transportation \ trucking litigation.
Mr. Painter is a member of both the California and Oregon State Bars. He is also a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. He lectures on a variety of legal topics, including document retention and electronic discovery. Mr. Painter has extensive experience in mediating cases.
He is admitted to practice in all courts in the state of California, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California and the U. S. Supreme Court.

He and his wife, Marcia, have been married for more than 40 years and have raised two wonderful children. They reside with their dog "Hobbes" in Fair Oaks, California.
