Colin Campbell is joining Ericksen Arbuthnot as Of Counsel effective January 1, 2013.
Colin is a senior attorney with substantial experience handling complex and high exposure litigation arising from construction defects, construction site injuries, premises liability, products and professional liability, first and third party insurance coverage and bad faith claims, environmental, toxic tort and other serious injury claims and patent and other intellectual property matters. He has extensive arbitration, mediation and trial experience in cases throughout California in both state and federal courts.
He has represented general contractors and subcontractors in complex construction defect litigation involving office buildings, hotels, apartment buildings, condominiums and multi-home residential developments. He has been retained by personal and commercial line insurers, as well as by insured parties, to advise them regarding insurance coverage issues and provide representation in coverage litigation, including bad faith lawsuits.
His background includes being General Counsel of a Silicon Valley technology company, where he directed the company's legal affairs, including corporate governance, compliance and SEC reporting matters, and where he managed its environmental, real estate and commercial litigation. In addition, he supervised the development and licensing of its patent portfolio, managed its intellectual property litigation and prepared employment and non-disclosure agreements, real estate and other leases and commercial contracts.
Earlier, as a partner with a Silicon Valley law firm, Colin handled, and supervised, a practice group that handled the defense of environmental, toxic tort, construction defect, patent, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, as well as intellectual property registration and licensing, software licensing and small company formation, governance, mergers and acquisitions. Before starting his legal career, he was employed as a mechanical engineer supporting research and development of advanced technology devices and materials, and related manufacturing technology transfers, and also the design and construction of high energy physics research equipment and facilities.
Colin has been admitted to practice in all courts in the State of California, the U.S. Supreme Court, the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Claims, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Central Districts of California and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
He received his J.D. from Santa Clara University and his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. He also is a registered professional engineer in California in both Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering.
