Norma Chavez, a partner in Ericksen Arbuthnot's Los Angeles office, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Weingart East Los Angeles (WELA) YMCA. She currently serves on the Financial Development Committee.
Norma is particularly excited about the WELA YMCA's Youth and Government program that is being offered to 10 to 12 high school students this year. "Normally, a program like this is only offered in suburban areas because it is so expensive," said Norma. "At the end of this program, the students will spend a weekend in Sacramento, where they will take on the roles of government officials. This is just one of the programs that expands opportunities for the young people in a lower income community."
The WELA YMCA serves more than 6,500 clients per year in the Boyle Heights community and provides before and after school enrichment programs; parent-child programs; swim lessons; camping; seniors' activities; teen programs; and an exercise room for physical fitness and special interest classes.
